What Would Jesus Buy?

I’ve been interested in what has been called the “voluntary simplicity” movement for years, but am now getting harder-core where it concerns holidays and children especially, given the indoctrination and  propaganda on TV- so far I have managed to convince my kids that most stuff on TV is crap, almost every commercial and most programming-

Protests Against Materialism, Rabid Consumerism,  Debt-ridden, compulsive shopping Christmas-

UK Greedy Xmas Protest  UK

(these various “movements’  is not WN per se, but it is sound as far as keeping us free of debt , and our kids not growing up to be materialistic , greedy debtors, who never  learn to enjoy what they have, or to be creative without “something new” in their hand every minute)

What Would Jesus Buy? follows Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir as they go on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the Shopocalypse: the end of mankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the fires of eternal debt!

From producer Morgan Spurlock (SUPER SIZE ME) and director Rob VanAlkemade comes a serious docu-comedy about the commercialization of Christmas.  …Through retail interventions, corporate exorcisms, and some good old-fashioned preaching, Reverend Billy reminds us that we have lost the true meaning of Christmas. What Would Jesus Buy? is a  journey into the heart of America – from exorcising the demons at the Wal-Mart headquarters to taking over the center stage at the Mall of America and then ultimately heading to the Promised Land … Disneyland.

Will we be led like Sheeple to the Christmas slaughter, or will we find a new way to give a gift this Christmas?  What Would Jesus Buy? may just be the divine intervention we’ve all been searching for.

The Shopocalypse is upon us … Who will be $aved?

  1. This is something I’ve been working toward too. Buying at thrift stores, bartering, and in some cases just doing without when I realize it’s just a piece of eye candy that I want but don’t need. It’s funny how fast the desire for a thing will fade when you practice that.

P.S. You get a gold star for the Fight Club reference! I love it.

  2. Liking it is mostly a guy thing, I guess. The top photo you with the “You are not your bank account, etc.” quote is from Fight Club.
